Playing Sugar in my Coffee-o on a fretless Mountain Banjo from Carver Banjos. This came from a kit that was to be assembled by the buyer, but Carver Banjos also sells completes. A kit of the Mountain Banjo or half a dozen other types can be purchased here: carverbanjos.com

I'm not entirely sure where this song originates, but I know it from Modest Mouse's 1994 cassette tape release "Sad Sappy Sucker Chokin' on a Mouthful of Lost Thoughts." The song has so much more character than the one I play here, listen to the recording here:    • Modest Mouse - Sugar In My Coffeeo  . The track features who I assume to be a friend of the band's only, known on the internet as "Colin." This information is from a reddit thread on r/ModestMouse and provided by u/Styrofoam--Boots.

Modest Mouse's recording is truly lo-fi and excellently approaches the fuzziness of oldtime recordings via their own lo-fi equipment of the early 90s. The entire record—initially scrapped as their debut and later released as an abbreviated version without Sugar in my Coffee-o—is a fantastic bit of catchy, experimental, DIY, and unpolished music. The Daniel Johnston influence pours out of this record, and I think it's by far their most disrespected album—even in the face of their ever-changing sound.

The playing here isn't exactly what's played on that track, though. I don't have an ear for pitch, so I found an unlisted YouTube video of someone playing the tune. Since the video is unlisted, I'll avoid linking to it in case the creator does not want it to be generally accessible. Nevertheless, thank you Maggie Lind for the tutorial.

I have tabbed out Maggie's playing, and that tab can be accessed here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/fo...
