John: Hey guys, John here from etrailer.com. Today we have a 2019 Ram 2500. We are test fitting the Thule Gate Mate Pro. This is a 60 inch pad and it helps us hold up to eight bikes. So this is just a pad that goes over our tailgate. It's a very simple design, very easy to use.

And what this does is it gives us eight different positions to put our bikes in. So whether we want to try to fit eight bikes back here or just a few and spread them out, it gives us a way to hold our bikes more securely in our truck bed, instead of just tossing them back here and having them bounce around and jostle around. Or if we do have a way to stand it up and we have a toolbox in the front of our bed here, this allows us to have the front side of our bike hanging out the back, so that way we still have more room.The other great application is that if we have an accessory in our hitch already, like a cargo basket, or maybe we we're pulling a trailer, we still need to take our bikes, we can still do that. Securing our bikes to the pad is very simple. We have a simple hook and loop fastener here.

And so we place our bike in whatever position we need it. And then wrap this around our bike frame, bring it through and secure it. One thing I do like that Thule has integrated into this are these different raised pads here that allows us to position our hook and loop fasteners in different spots, depending on how our bike is designed. So our bike frame here has a slanted down tube. And so we can move our fastener here so that way it secures it better than if we could only have it right here.

It's much more snug.When we install the pad, we put it over our tailgate and then we route, there's three different straps. We run it through the crack between our tailgate and our truck bed and up and through the different connectors here. And then we tighten it down and that's what secures it to our tailgate.Another thing I like that Thule did is they have these bags here at the back. They're mesh. And so any wet gear or gear that might be muddy, we can toss it in here so it's not moving all around our truck bed.

It's nice and secure. And we know right where it is when we get home and we need to clean it.The Gate Mate Pro has a nice soft design for the tailgate side. So we don't have to worry about it scratching up our finish, the paint finish on our truck. But then on the outside, it has a nice vinyl design, which makes it easy to clean. Plus if we just got off the trailer and our bikes are really nasty, they got some mud on it, we don't have to worry about how are we going to clean this later You just spray it off, spray it with some soap and water and rub it down. And we're good to go.We do have a cutout here, right where our handle for our tailgate sits. And this not only allows us to operate our tailgate once we have our bikes off without removing the pad, but it also gives us access to the backup camera. So if we don't have our bikes loaded, we need to back up our truck, we don't have to take the pad off just to use the backup camera.Removing our bike is very simple. We just release the hook and loop strap. Now we can remove our bike and either put it in the storage spot we have, or get ready to hit the trail.When we want to remove the Gate Mate Pro, just come to the back, remove our straps from the connectors here, simply lift it off of our tailgate, and then we can fold it up. It's a lot easier to store than maybe a hitch mount bike rack or a roof mount bike rack. There's actually a loop right here that we can use to hang it on a nail or maybe a hook in our garage.And that's going to conclude our look at the 60 inch Thule Gate Mate Pro on our 2019 Ram 2500.
