The leader of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, spoke via video link on Friday on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of the July war between Israel and Lebanon in 2006. During his speech Nasrallah commented on a car bomb that went off in Beirut on Thursday. Nasrallah promised that the number of Hezbollah fighters in Syria will increase as a result. A Sunni group calling themselves 'Brigades of Aisha' have claimed responsibility for the bomb, which targeted a building in a Hezbollah controlled area of the city.

During the speech, Nasrallah lay the blame for the bombing with "terrorist Takfiri groups" promising to react with force, saying: "If you thought that by the killing of our women - and by the killing of our children, and by the killing of our innocents, and by destroying our lives and our villages and cities - that we would consider the retreating on any position we have taken, on our vision, or any of our convictions - you are mistaken. Dear fools, study well our experience spanning thirty years with Israel. Study well this example well."

He also promised that Hezbollah will respond by doubling the amount of people stationed in Syria saying: "Our response to this bombing - or one of our many responses to any bombings of this kind - and with all transparency also - if we had 100 fighters stationed in Syria they will become 200. If we had 1,000 fighters stationed in Syria they will become 2,000 and if we had 5,000 fighters stationed in Syria they will become 10,000."

He then went on to reinforce Hezbollah's plans to stay in Syria, saying: "You are mistaken, you are aiming at the wrong target. If the battle with these terrorist Takfiri groups required myself and all of Hezbollah to go to Syria - we shall indeed then all go to Syria."
