1:02:15 *FROM HERE STARTS The Jewish practice of Netilat yadayim, or hand washing, has several laws and customs,* which literally translates to "taking up of the hands". It is a practice that is required in certain situations, such as: Waking up, Before eating a meal that includes bread or matzah, and Before davening. The tradition originated with the rabbis of the Talmud and is based on practices from the ancient Temple in Jerusalem. The blessing recited during netilat yadayim expresses gratitude and is a reminder to use one's hands for holy purposes.
The phrase netilat yadayim may come from Psalm 134:2 or the Greek word natla, which refers to the jar of water used for washing.
Some other things to know about netilat yadayim:

Before washing one's hands, one should not touch their mouth, nose, ears, eyes, or eyelids.
If one unintentionally touches food before washing their hands, they should wash the food three times. If that's not possible, they should preferably not eat it.
One can touch food with a cloth between their hand and the food.
One should not touch sefarim before washing their hands.
