Zac struggled to cope with the loss of his mother and turned to hard drugs. Despite trying to get sober, he relapsed multiple times and found difficulty in school. Eventually, he sought assistance at the University of Michigan, graduated with his bachelor's degree, and started a master's program in social work. Finding his community to stay sober and mentally healthy was key.

This video was produced by U-M alumni Charles Pelham-Ashley and undergraduate students Erin Burke and Frank Allen through the Eisenberg Family Depression Center's student-led Maxwell Gray Film Fellowship program, which promotes student mental health through inspiring original video content. Our student film fellows aid in the development, recruitment, production, post-production, and dissemination of brief mental health videos.
