Ambi (Grandma)
is a song based on the tradition and culture of the A·chiks (Garos) The cultural exploitation among the Garo society due to the influences of modernistic cultures or trends towards the new generation that has influenced them to glamorize a modern way of lifestyle and turned their eyes blind to realize the marvellous ancestral culture and tradition that has been preserved and nurtured by the Ancestors for centuries. The song expresses that, as time passes the once rich culture now seems to be tainted, and has fallen victim to exploitation. The “Ambi” titled song paints Grandmother’s tales, a beautiful narrative about the golden old days of Garo culture which she sang in a form of a lullaby to her grandchildren while making them fall to sleep.
As she sang the ballad to her grandchildren gazing at the moon she recalls the relationship between Ancestors and the sanctity of Principles of Deity. She further reminiscences the pristine culture and tradition of the A·chik (Garo) kinfolk has now coated with exploitation and fallen into a line of thought and sadness whilst she grasps her grandchildren on her bosom as she continues her lullaby till her grandchildren fall to sleep.
