Описание к видео Winston Avenue down to Coy Pond / Coy Pond to Sheringham Rd

Dorset safer roads pipped me to the post a bit here albeit we are making slightly different points.

I filmed this on Wednesday but didn't get time to post it, in the meantime DSR also uploaded a great video of the whole route.

When the proposal for the new Alder Rd Crossing to connect up Recreation Rd with Sheringham Rd as part of a 'Quiet Streets' route through Parkstone and down to Coy Pond and into Bournemouth, there were a number of people that pointed out a route like that already exists.

So let's explain this clearly then.

The Wallisdown to Bournemouth Route is a North-South route and more suitable for people north of Herbert Avenue.

The cycle path around the outside of Sainsbury's Roundabout, down the shared path to Winston Ave then down the gravel track by Bishop Aldhelms School that connects you to Coy Pond and beyond is great, a brilliant route.

But this is no good people in Parkstone on an East-West route wanting to get to Bournemouth without having to use Poole Rd, LV Roundabout and Westbourne.

The new crossing at Recreation Rd allows for safe crossing into Sheringham Rd, takes you most of the way down the usually busy Yarmouth Rd and allows you to connect up with Coy Pond and Bournemouth Gardens.

In the other direction it's a great route from Bournemouth, through the generally quieter streets of Parkstone to connect up with Ringwood Rd Cycle Lane and onto Hunt Rd at Sweethome Inn where the Longfleet TCF will take you all the way to George Roundabout without having to go down Longfleet Road past the hospital.

The combination of fantastic cycle infrastructure going in along main roads as well as these small additions like crossings that connect up quiet routes either side of busy roads is what a cycle network is all about, now we're starting to see the very beginning of something that could eventually be fantastic.

But this really is just the beginning, there is still a lot of work to be done.
