Like many of its asian neighbours, the Philippines has been site of rapid economic growth of the past two decades. Following a period of martial law and strictly controlled rural provinces, peasants and farmers began moving to the nations capital, Manila, in the 1980s looking for better lives a piece of the growth promised by new democratic leadership, foreign investment, and industry. Many of these people however, remained both on the margins of society, and Manila itself, where slums areas began springing up and multiplying as the population boomed. One such slum is Navotas Cemetery where currently 6000 men, women, and children currently live amongst the graves, dug up human bones, and a garbage dump.

Navotas Cemetery is a slum on the outskirts of Manila where an estimated 6000 people currently live and work amongst graves and piled human bones.
