Some journeys demand to be revisited, not just for the destination, but for the paths that shaped them. Today, I’m stepping away from my iPad and the digital world of Koffee With Kafka to return to the tactile, raw energy of graphite and acrylic—a medium that feels as timeless as the stories that inspire me.

This piece is the first in my Kafka on Screen series, a tribute to the incredible actors who have brought Franz Kafka to life on film. Starting with Idan Weiss, whose haunting portrayal in Franz captured the quiet intensity and enigmatic spirit of Kafka, this series is my way of honoring not only Kafka’s legacy but also the artistic interpretations that have kept his essence alive across generations.

Kafka’s works have always been a labyrinth of existential questions, surreal imagery, and profound truths, but it’s the way artists, filmmakers, and actors have reimagined him that continues to inspire me. From Jorge Marrale’s poetic depth in Los Amores de Kafka (1988) to Jeremy Irons’ haunting presence in Kafka (1991), Sabin Tambrea’s dreamlike portrayal in Die Herrlichkeit des Lebens (2024), Joel Basman’s whimsical introspection in Kafka (2024), and Idan Weiss’s magnetic performance in Franz (2025), each interpretation has added a new layer to my understanding of Kafka’s world.

This series is as much about celebrating these cinematic visions as it is about my own creative journey. Each sketch is a moment to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the raw, imperfect beauty of traditional media. The bright red acrylic background in this piece represents the passion, tension, and urgency that Kafka’s works evoke—a stark contrast to the quiet grayscale of the graphite sketch.

Art, like Kafka’s stories, is never static. It evolves, it questions, it transforms. And as I continue to work on Koffee With Kafka, I find myself constantly inspired by the ways Kafka’s legacy has been interpreted and reimagined.
