According to research by Deloitte, fewer than 6% of active real estate agents and brokers identify as Black, but more than 14% of the American population is Black. On the commercial real estate side, the numbers are even more dismal. Reportedly, only 2% of commercial real estate brokers are African Americans and the development community is almost exclusively white. In an industry characterized by huge sums of money, Black Homeownership, Black Architects, and Black Developers face major hurdles in securing loans, connecting with influential networks, and gaining access to capital. But we wanted to take some time out to highlight the fact that the Real Estate world is not an entirely homogenous field. It is one that is slowly diversifying and there are only an elite number of firms and individuals who are excelling and making their way to the top. And we want to tell you about a few.
