The Taimen, or Riverwolf as its also known, is one of the most prehistoric of predators that inhabits rivers across Asia. To catch one on a fly will take you to some of the most stunning areas of Mongolia and Siberia. In this video Alex Jardine walks us through the tying of the Gurgler, one of the most effective topwater patterns for this aggressive species.

The dressing is as follows:
Hook: size 3/0 Atitude Streamer by Partridge
Thread: Veevus 8/0 Orange
Under tail: Natural Bucktail
Tail: Funky Crystal Flash Olive
Body: Natural Rabbit Zonker Strip
Back: Red and Black craft foam (2 or 3 mm)
Legs: Barred Rubber Legs Red (Medium)
