We all know the fear of beginning a new relationship, hoping that it will work out and being fearful that a breakup is inevitable. When the potential of a breakup is more likely, we call this a high-risk relationship. Sometimes we just get a gut feeling that this isn’t going to work out. Today we will discuss five signs that you’re in one of these relationships.

1. Your Partner Shows A Lack Of Interest In You

If it feels that your partner does not listen to what you say or even care if they see you, then you may be in for some trouble. If they do not take the time to make you feel special and only focus on themselves, this is a sign of a high-risk relationship.

2. There Is a Lack of Intimacy

Intimacy is more than having sex and is more about having a trusting relationship where you can discuss your feelings openly. If either partner is hiding something, that takes away from the intimacy of that relationship. Hiding feelings of any kind from each other forms a breakdown in the relationship. You will begin to distrust your partner and it will be unlikely that you will open up to them, either emotionally or sexually.

3. You Had a Negative Childhood Experience With Love

As much as we may want to, we cannot escape our experiences as a child and they vastly affect our relationships as adults. If you did not get enough love as a child, this will create an insecurity as an adult. This will likely affect your relationships because you are still seeking the love that you never received. If your partner cannot live up to unrealistic expectations, you are immediately placing all of your relationships into a high-risk zone.

4. You Have Already Broken-Up Once

If you have already experienced a breakup with this person, it will take a lot of work to stay together after reuniting a second time. The feelings from the first time around do not simply go away. The person that was broken up with carries those feelings of resentment. There are emotional wounds that remain and they are very difficult to heal, placing your relationship at high-risk.

5. Low Level of Commitment

If you sense trouble in a relationship and you feel as though there is nothing tying you to that person, such as a marriage or children, you may be more likely to be at risk for a breakup. Commitments can also include a mortgage, financial investments, or a business. This is not to say that you should stay together simply for those reasons, but if there is already trouble and there are not high levels of commitment already in place, your relationship is likely becoming a high-risk one.
