U.S. President Donald J. Trump attended a solemn “dignified transfer” ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on December 17, 2025, honoring American personnel killed in Syria.

The ceremony marked the return of the remains of two U.S. Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter who were killed in an attack in the Syrian town of Palmyra. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and senior military officials joined the president as honor guards carried the flag-draped transfer cases with precision and respect.

The attack, reportedly carried out by a suspected Islamic State attacker, also left three U.S. soldiers wounded. President Trump described the fallen as “great patriots” and vowed retaliation.

Dover Air Force Base has long served as the site for dignified transfer ceremonies, where fallen U.S. service members are returned home in the presence of their families, military leaders, and national officials.
