The Burnside Skate Park is a famous skate park in Portland, Oregon.

A few weeks ago, my student Anthony from Brazil asked me about the Burnside Skate Park, a place I had been by many times, but didn't know much about.

This video isn't actually about the skate park as a skate park---but as an example of how spontaneous community activities, like the building of the Burnside Skate Park, changed Portland. I use this video to contrast "old" and "new" Portland, and show how something as simple as friends doing something for fun can transform an entire city.
