Here’s a step-by-step of what I did:

Step 1 – Pick and Decode the Door Lock:
Using a Lishi tool, I picked open the door lock and then decoded it. This gave me the key cuts needed to make a key for the door.

Step 2 – Try the Key in the Ignition:
Once I cut the key for the door, I tried it in the ignition — and it didn’t turn. That’s how I confirmed the door and ignition were different.

Step 3 – Pull Ignition Code or Decode Separately:
I had to figure out the ignition key code. Sometimes I can pull the code using tools or go inside the ignition and decode it manually using feel and tools. In this case, it took more work than usual.

Step 4 – Cut a Second Key:
Now I had to cut another key that would work in the ignition. So the customer ended up with two different keys, one for the door, one for the ignition.

Step 5 – Program the Key:
Finally, I used my key programmer to program the transponder chip in the key. That way, the car would start with the new key. Without programming, the car won’t crank even if the key turns.
