STORYLINE:
Protesters marched somberly in Tel Aviv carrying coffins draped with Israeli flags on Thursday, symbolizing the hostages held captive in Gaza.

Gil Dickmann, cousin of Carmel Gat, a hostage whose body was recovered by the Israeli military from Gaza on Saturday, addressed the crowd.

"Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister, sentenced Carmel, my cousin, to death,” he said. "327 days she was there in Gaza, in captivity. There were 327 opportunities to bring her back."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that Israel must keep open-ended control of Gaza’s border with Egypt, deepening his stance on an issue that has threatened to derail cease-fire efforts.

Netanyahu’s comments came as the United States is developing a new proposal for a cease-fire and hostage release deal in hopes of ending the nearly 11-month-old war.

In angry public statements, the families of hostages have accused Netanyahu of blocking a deal and potentially sacrificing their loved ones’ lives for the sake of holding the border strip.
