For forty years, Dr. Jagdish Sheth has been predicting the future. He might say, more modestly, that he “forecasts” the future, but his research into consumer behavior, multivariate methods, competitive strategy, relationship marketing and emerging markets, has made him a top thought leader for nearly half a century. He is frequently interviewed and quoted in numerous publications like Fortune, Financial Times, The Economic Times, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal and he has worked with some of the largest companies in the world including AT&T, Delta, Ernst & Young, Ford, GE, Motorola, Sprint and 3M.
In this first byte-size episode with Dr. Sheth, he walks us through how the changing demographics of America is the most important trend that has occurred in the U.S. Dr. Sheth identifies five key demographics that will have significant impact on American culture and business in the coming decades. Major shifts are happening, like the aging of America - 10,000 baby boomers will retire every day over the next 15 to 20 years. Households are changing dramatically - more women work now than ever before and many of us are also choosing to live alone. These realities will have an enormous effect on things like health care and the economy - as new jobs are created and old ones are phased out.
Dr. Sheth, or “Jag", as he is known, has published more than 400 research papers and books in various areas of marketing, consumer behavior and emerging markets. He’s received over 30 awards and distinctions, but “getting the biggest potential out of people,” is what brings Dr. Sheth the most joy in his life.
