In this video, you'll learn how to cash a check using the PayPal app's "Cash a Check" feature. This function allows eligible users to deposit paper checks directly into their PayPal balance by simply taking a photo with their smartphone. However, it's important to note that this feature is not available for money orders, users located in New York, or accounts with a negative PayPal balance.

To begin, open the PayPal app and log in to your account. Tap on the "Wallet" or "Finances" section, accessible from the menu or bottom navigation bar depending on your app version. If you're eligible, you’ll see the “Cash a Check” option listed here. If this option doesn’t appear, your account may not qualify due to regional or account-specific restrictions.

If the option is visible, tap on "Cash a Check" to begin the process. Enter the exact amount written on the check. Then, the app will prompt you to take clear photos of both the front and back of the endorsed check. Endorse it by signing your name and writing "For Mobile Deposit Only" underneath your signature. Place the check on a dark, flat surface in a well-lit area to ensure the images are clear and legible.

Once you've submitted the photos, PayPal will process the check for approval. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to up to 24 hours. If approved, you may have two deposit options: standard (free, but slower) or instant (subject to a fee). If you select instant access, a fee will be deducted from the total amount. After approval, PayPal may instruct you to write "VOID" across the check and upload a final photo as a security step.
