How much does a doctor earn in India?

This question goes through everyone’s mind, that too during the COVID 19, all eyes are on doctors. Myself being a doctor and having spent all my life around doctors; I am qualified to answer this question.
Everybody thinks doctors earn a lot. Besides, why would anyone be willing to spend insane work hours, decades reading, spending time away from family, right? Wrong doctors earn very less compared to the work they spend.

But hospitals are billing insane amounts for COVID care they should be earning a lot. The fact is that money goes to the owners of the respective hospitals, doctors in most cases are paid a fixed salary even during the COVID times.

Just like any other branch, Medicine has many specializations and super specialization. Earning depend on many variables like skills sets, experience, the demand for specialization, individual practice, or salaried work, state (Kerala, metro cities more pay). I am averaging the figures for the sake of simplification.

Mbbs Course duration - 5 and ½ years (17 years)

Pay after MBBS (23 years)
Work hours – 90 hours per week
Pay per month – 25,000 to 40,000 Rs
Pay per hour – 65rs to 105 rs

During post-graduation (MD/MS) (25 years to 28 years)
The course duration of 3 years
Work hours - 110 hours per week
Pay per month – 30,000 to 50,000 Rs
Pay per hour – 65 Rs to 110 Rs
Leaves 15 – 30 per year

MD / MS practice (29 years)
Work hours - 80 hours per week
Pay per month – 60,000 to 90,000
Pay per hour – 175 Rs to 265 Rs

During super specialization (DM/MCH) (31 to 34 years)
The course duration of 3 years
Work hours - 110 hours per week
Pay per month – 30,000 to 50,000 Rs
Pay per hour – 65 Rs to 110 Rs
Leaves 15 – 30 per year

DM / MCH Practice (35 years)
Work hours - 80 hours per week
Pay per month – 1,20,000 Rs to 2,00,000 Rs
Pay per hour – 352 Rs to
590 Rs

When compared to other countries, it is below the minimum hourly pay scale. On top of that, the stress is beyond comprehension.
