Lancia entered the World Sportscar Championship with their LC2 in 1983. On paper it easily outclassed the competition, but in reality it suffered from mechanical problems and a very thirsty engine, a very important aspect of Group-C racing. The engine was a modified Ferrari 308 GTB engine, reduced from 3,0 to 2,6 litres and with two KKK turbo chargers it produced over 800 horsepower. It had quite the number of pole positions, but only had 3 victories during its lifetime. Factory support ended in 1986, but the LC2 was being used by privateers up until 1991. Alfa Romeo was to replace the LC2, but sadly that never happened.

The race:
Starting from P11, the LC2 out accellerated some of the competition and entered the first chicane in 9th. Using the monstrous power of the LC2, i could cut through the field like a warm knife through butter and ended up in no man's land for a couple of laps. Which was nice since no fighting means no extra fuel consumption. There were still 2 Porsche s956 in front of me, and although those are the cars to beat, on Monza, with it's high speed sections, i managed to get them within visual range on lap 10.
On lap 12 they were held up by back markers just about enough for me to close the gap.
Since the Jägermeister Porsche sat behind the Nomad Aston Martin, i had a much better exit out of Curva Parabolica and made the transition from P3 to P2 on lap 13.
The other Porsche had a bit of a communication issue with the Lola and lost some time.
I struggled with worn out tires, causing understeer off power and oversteer on power. A fight for 1st would've been difficult, but to my surprise the Porsche entered the pits at the end of lap 13; they miscalculated the fuel. To be fair, i put in 90 litres and had nothing left at the end of the cool down lap! That's a whopping 6 litres per lap!
Anyway, to my surprise i took the victory with an Italian car, Italian team on the infamous Italian circuit of Monza!
