Shinobi (忍) is a side-scrolling hack and slash video game produced by Sega, originally released for arcades on the Sega System 16 board in 1987. The player controls ninja Joe Musashi, to stop the Zeed terrorist organization from kidnapping students of his clan.

Shinobi was a commercial success in arcades; it topped the monthly Japanese table arcade charts in December 1987, and became a blockbuster arcade hit in the United States, where it was the highest-grossing conversion kit of 1988 and one of the top five conversion kits of 1989. It was adapted by Sega to its Master System game console, followed by conversions to the Nintendo Entertainment System, PC Engine, and home computers. It was re-released as downloadable emulated versions of the original arcade game for the Wii and Xbox 360. The arcade game joined the Nintendo Switch in January 2020 through the Sega Ages series. Shinobi's success inspired various sequels and spin-offs of the Shinobi series.

《시노비》(Shinobi, 忍)는 세가가 발매한 1987년 아케이드 횡스크롤 액션 게임이다. 세가의 《시노비》 시리즈 첫 번째 작품이다. 현대의 닌자 조 무사시가 주인공으로 범죄 조직 지드 (Zeed)를 멈추는 것이 목표로, 각 스테이지마다 있는 인질들을 구출하고 돌파해야한다.

아케이드용으로 처음으로 발매된 후 가정용 게임기 패밀리 컴퓨터, 세가 마스터 시스템, PC 엔진와 컴퓨터 기종 IBM PC, 암스트래드 CPC, 아미가, 등으로 이식됐다. 아케이드판의 경우 2009년에 Wii 버추얼 콘솔, 플레이스테이션 네트워크 및 엑스박스 라이브 아케이드로 재발매됐다.

Shinobi fue creado por SEGA en Japón, y distribuido por la misma compañía en noviembre de 1987.

En 2009, el videojuego fue reeditado por SEGA y distribuido en formato digital por Nintendo y Microsoft, a través de la Consola Virtual de la Wii y del servicio Xbox Live Arcade de la Xbox 360 respectivamente.

Tras su lanzamiento, entre 1988 y 1989, se hicieron muchas conversiones y adaptaciones de Shinobi a consolas de videojuegos y ordenadores personales de la época.

Shinobi también cuenta con numerosas secuelas, conocidas como la saga Shinobi, además de una parodia titulada Alex Kidd in Shinobi World.

Shadow Dancer es la única continuación de Shinobi que hubo en formato para máquinas recreativas.

Shinobi foi posteriormente adaptado pela Sega para o seu console Master System, seguido de conversões licenciadas para outras plataformas, como o PC Engine e vários computadores domésticos, além de versões emuladas para download do jogo arcade original para o Wii e Xbox 360. O sucesso de Shinobi inspirou o desenvolvimento de várias sequências e spin-offs da série Shinobi.
