Albums, by nature, especially your debut album, is never an easy feat. But, when Nick Devon commits to making one, magic is ensured. Spanning 13 tracks, “Monochromatic World” is a wonderfully composed and arranged journey through the mind of Athen’s based producer, Nick Devon. Ranging from surreal atmospheric soundscapes to brooding club bangers, the album serves up an honest and emotional journey; step into “Monochromatic World”.

Opening the album is ‘Interlude”. A great setting the stage type record with modular lfo’s, spaced out pad work, mystical vocals, and a winding arrangement. Leading into the next track on the record is “Jawdan’s Dream”. A chord evolving and pensive tune, the dream like sequence gives rise and shape to an alternate sense of reality. Pushing ahead into the next track is, “Dimensions”. Powerful, groovy, seductive, and delivering on its’ name, “Dimensions” brings ‘Nick’s’ effortless percussion work front and center. As the album continues its’ deep dive, we arrive at ‘Hypnosis’. An earthshaking kick, rumbling baseline, with leads spread across the top, “Hypnosis” is guaranteed to turn heads. Next up is “Age of Innocence”, a haunting yet beautfiul tune that conveys an innocent sense of wonderment. “Atlas” serves as a great album middle point. The arpeggiated break, deep pads, and double kicks all keep the energy alive and well. “Full Of Forrest” is next on deck. Once again exhibiting gorgeous and emotive pad work, this track has a classic progressive quality to it whilst remaining current. Clearing the forest and into the next track on the album is the beating “Cyborg Heart”. A proper tension builder with slick 909 hats, muted bass lines and lightly modulated leads. Coasting along in positive spirit, we arrive at “Everything Possible”. Short but sweet, this track delivers an immensely deep and subtle energy, proper 3am vibes. Beginning to round out the album is “Distance”. An almost familiar hook that captures the album in so many ways but still delivering a uniqueness unto itself. The deep, Berlin type, shuffled percussion and ethereal pads makes “Distance” a standout tune. Next is the album’s title track itself, “Monochromatic World”. Nick delivers a more techno forward sound on this one along with shimmering crystalized pads to that reach the upper harmonics. Gorgeous and powerful. 2nd to last on the album is “Ghost In My Head”. Stripped back and beat broken, this exhibits Nick’s range and ability to create diverse atmospheres. Last on this momentous album is “Sunbeam”, a positive and glimmering ray of light with a proper sense of finality. Immense, formidable, and full of hope, “Sunbeam” is the perfect closer.
