Richard Eaton recounts how population movements into India from Iran and Central Asia introduced Persianate culture to India, how it transformed cultural practice and is reflected in India’s language, literature, cuisine, attire, religion, art, architecture and more. He reveals how its interaction with India’s Sanskrit culture shaped the Delhi Sultanate, the Mughal Empire and regional states. Rosie Llewellyn-Jones explores the post-Mughal dynasties in Hyderabad, Bengal and Awadh and how the British and French responded to the Persianate culture they found there.

Richard M. Eaton is the author of international bestseller 'India in the Persianate Age 1000-1765' (Penguin Random House 2020). He is Professor of History at the University of Arizona.

Rosie Llewellyn-Jones is the author of numerous works, including biographies of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah and of Claude Martin. Her latest book is 'The Estate of Major General Claude Martin at Lucknow' (Cambridge Scholars Publishing 2021.)
