Описание к видео Gaza journalists who witnessed Israel’s strike on Nasser Hospital speak to MEE

Journalists in Gaza told Middle East Eye about Israel’s strike on the Nasser Medical Complex that killed several of their colleagues. Ibrahim Qanna, a correspondent for Al-Ghad TV, said he witnessed the two-stage bombing, which killed five journalists and several paramedics as they carried out humanitarian and media work. The first strike targeted Reuters cameraman Hussam Al-Masri on the fourth floor, followed minutes later by a powerful blast that struck those rushing to rescue him.

Fellow journalist Khaled Shaat recounted the moments before Al-Masri’s death, describing the attack as a deliberate attempt to silence coverage of Israeli actions. “The Palestinian journalist poses an existential threat to Israel,” Shaat said, stressing that reporters were killed while documenting both the war and the humanitarian crisis.

Abdullah Al-Attar, another journalist in Gaza, emphasised the scale of the danger, noting that more than 240 journalists have been killed in the past two years. He described fleeing the hospital strike barefoot, filming injured civilians and medical staff while narrowly escaping death himself.

Despite such targeting, Gaza’s journalists continue to work, determined to document the conflict and amplify Palestinian voices to the world. Their calls for international protection and accountability have been echoed by local media and human rights observers, who warn that the deliberate targeting of journalists highlights both the dangers they face and the urgency of safeguarding press freedom in Gaza.
