The Small World of Machteld Cossee

When Machteld is eighteen years old, she is told that she suffers from a disease that will eventually make her both deaf and blind. Machteld, a young woman, married and mother. She asks herself: 'Who am I and what do I have to offer?' No one talks about the sword of Damocles that is hanging over her. In the next five years her second child is born and her marriage is put under pressure. While friends are making careers for themselves and live dynamic lives, Machteld's world is getting increasingly quieter, darker and smaller.
