Trying out different sword drawing methods with a live-blade Traditional Filipino Weapons ginunting. The following movements are possible because of the (good) construction of the wooden sheath and its retention clip, as well as the blade's ergonomics.

Traditionally in Southeast Asia, men wore their short swords and bolos tucked in a belt or sash on their waist, then both sword and sheath are taken out when it's time rock n' roll. Often the sheath, usually made from some type of hardwood, are used as a shield or a secondary striking weapon. The movements depicted here reflect some of how it was traditionally handled, combined with unsheathing methods that I created.

There are (many) people in FMA that like to do the "samurai draw," which is something you really shouldn't do with a recurved blade like a ginunting and a full sheath (closed all the way to the neck). Not only is it stupid, but potentially dangerous since the "beak" has a tendency to bite and scrape into the inner linings/seams of the sheath.

Music: "Traust" by Heilung. I do not own this music.
