In this example, I used the ITA Matrix to find a business class ticket from Dublin to Las Vegas via London and Los Angeles, returning through Philadelphia and London — all for around £1,576 compared to £3,000 if flying direct from London. The trick? Starting the journey in Dublin unlocks massive savings, even though the flight routes through London anyway.

My 2023 route was planned this way to maximum tier points with the old British Airways executive club. An advantage of flying JFK to LA is that you get a lie flat seat with the AA transom flight, same with London to New York.
