Описание к видео Are igloos dangerous to build, and to sleep in? A guide to building safe snow shelters.

Is it safe to build an igloo? And to sleep in an igloo? Or in any other types of snow shelters and caves, for that matter?

This video will try to answer those questions by giving the basics of how to build an igloo in a safe manner, and also talks about dangers to watch out for.
Igloos can be dangerous if not built and used correctly. They can collapse if not built in a proper way, or in proper weather conditions.

To not make the video too long to watch, I am just talking about igloos, but this also applies broadly to other types of snow shelters such as snow caves and quinzees (quinzhees)

My several years of igloo building experience is from building igloos in the South Cascades in Washington state (in the Pacific Northwest) at about 3000-3500 feet elevations. The temperatures rarely drop below the high 20's (Fahrenheit), and often rise to above freezing during the day.
Building igloos in these conditions can be more difficult due to the varying snow qualities, and how the temperature fluctuations affect the integrity of the completed igloo.
In colder climates, once an igloo is built with packed snow, it will be much more solid, and longer-lasting.
