Dr. Seung-gyu Lee, a professor from the Department of General Surgery of Asan Medical Center and who has led the world's best liver transplantation team, has received the 3rd Asan Medical Award, which is Korea's most prestigious awards.
He received a medal and KRW 200 million at the awards ceremony held in Grand Hyatt Seoul.
Liver transplantation is a surgical treatment for liver cancer and end-stage liver cirrhosis. Dr.Seung Gyu Lee was the first in the world to successfully perform 'Liver Transplantation with Modified Right Lobe Graft' and 'Two-to-one Liver Transplantation', and thanks to these great achievements, he was awarded the prize.
The prize was awarded after a comprehensive evaluation including innovation and contribution to the new technology, nurturing of medical staff, paper publication and medical examination, education and research achievements.
Asan Medical Awards was established in 2007 to reward those who accomplished great achievements in basic medicine and clinical fields for the betterment of humankind.
