The original announcement trailer for Hogwarts Legacy had a Hogsmeade scene where the sign read “established 914” but that was removed for the State of Play footage. Was this an error?

We know that Hogsmeade was founded by Hengist of Woodcroft, who was a Hufflepuff. We do not know exactly when Hogwarts was founded, just that it was sometime in the 10th century. Professor Binns, however, tells Hermione “that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago” – this would place the founding around or before the year 990.

It could be possible that Hogwarts was founded in the early tenth century, but that would leave a narrow window between 901-907 so that Hengist would graduate from the school to establish Hogsmeade in 914. But it’s also possible that this was a mistake that the Hogwarts Legacy team corrected to avoid contradicting canon. Or perhaps they decided the sign looked better without the text.
