The Cherrywood/Brides Glen extension on the Green Line of the Dublin Luas (tramway) opened in October 2010. Part of the line runs through pleasant green fields and has the feel of a rural railway. 50% of the construction funding came from a levy on the new business parks that were opened up by the development. (The Luas gets no operating subsidy and usually returns a modest profit). So far, it is mainly employees of Dell who make use of the line. Two of the stations are designated "future stops": trams do not stop there at present because there are no passengers. The hope is that the new tramway will stimulate new businesses and homes when times get better.

There is a bit of a missed opportunity with the lack of public car parking provision at Brides Glen and Cherrywood stations. One of the stated aims of the Luas is to reduce car use in Dublin. However, anyone driving from the south hoping to do the green thing (and avoid rip-off central Dublin car park charges) by taking a tram in to the centre has to compete with regular commuters for parking space at the busy Stillorgan Park-&-Ride. Even more annoyingly, there is no combined Park-&-Ride ticket. (Veolia runs the trams, Apcoa runs the car park).
