Amelia has struggled with drug addiction, but when she finds out she is pregnant she quits cold turkey. After learning her baby has a fatal birth defect and will not survive past birth she struggles to stay clean for the remainder of her pregnancy. Upon her sons death she realizes she cannot handle life without him and blames herself for his condition and his premature death. She begins using drugs again and resisting all forms of help from her friends and family. When she realizes that Amelia is in trouble again Addison begins having flash backs to when Amelia was just a teenager and overdosed on drugs while staying the night at her home. She After a fight with Addison Amelia decides to have a little fun and drinks while doing her drugs. Judgment impaired she decides it is alright to drive home. This must have been her lucky day because after flipping her car several times and totaling it she managed to walk away with no physical injuries. Apparently nearly dying is enough to give her the wake up call of a lifetime and she agrees to enter rehab.
