India’s industrial momentum strengthened sharply in November as the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded a 25-month high growth of 6.7%, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The surge was led by manufacturing, which expanded by 8%, its fastest pace in over two years, supported by strong performances in capital goods and construction sectors.
Capital goods output rose by 10.4%, an 11-month high, reflecting improved investment activity, while infrastructure and construction grew by 12.1%, the fastest since October 2023. Mining output rebounded to 5.4%, ending two months of contraction. However, the electricity sector declined by 1.5%, the only laggard.
ICRA Chief Economist Aditi Nayar attributed the spike to festive calendar effects, post-festive restocking, and normalization after unseasonal rains. Despite GST-led demand support, average IIP growth in October–November remained modest at 3.6%, lower than the previous quarter, signalling a cautious recovery.
