Patrick Decker vs. Ali Gözübüyük & Sebastian Borchardt (3. Tischtennis Bundesliga Nord 2024/25)

Last Saturday we had our most important game of the season against relegation. After we had already beaten one of the two relegation candidates (6:4 against TSV Schwarzenbek), it was now the "Füchse" from Berlin.

The requirements were not optimal because Richard Hoffmann and Patrick Landsvogt (due to injury) were unable to take part in the game. So our long-injured defender Dominik Jonack was called into action plus we had to give up one double to conserve Dominik's energy for the singles.

In the doubles with Hardy I could win 3:1 against Christian Helm and Christian David Hold before I had to start against my long-time opponent Ali-Serdar Gözübüyük. Unfortunately, I've been suffering from a mild infection for a week and haven't been feeling up to par physically, so my concentration and strength weren't at 100% which is very dangerous against Ali. (Btw while I'm cutting this video I'm already really ill, so please excuse some missing details etc.).

With a lot of effort I was able to win the game after a 1:2 score in the following sets 11:4 and 11:5, which was a very important point for our team. In my second match against Berlin's best player Sebastian Borchardt I lost 0:3 due to no energy plus he played very well that day. His serve game and open game were very strong and stable, so that I wasn't able to win this time. Unfortunately someone repositioned the camera, so it's not centered properly.

It was all the more important that in the end Marius and Dominik were able to win their matches in the deciding sets. Marius even had match points against him in the decision and was able to secure the magnificent and important victory after over four hours of playing time in front of almost 100 spectators.

So we are an important step further in order to stay in the league and maybe we'll get one or two extra points on top in the next matches.
