Hillary Rodham Clinton, wife of the outgoing U-S President, was sworn in as senator on Sunday for the second time in as many weeks.
In front of three-thousand cheering Democrat supporters chanting "Hillary", the newly-minted junior senator took part in a splashy re-enactment ceremony at Madison Square Garden.
Vice President Al Gore administered the oath, with President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea looking on.
Aside from the celebrations, the gathering also sparked nostalgia about the outgoing administration.
It's one of the last times the Clintons and the Gores will appear in public together before George W Bush moves into the White House.
The first lady was officially sworn in as senator last week in Washington.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I, Hillary Rodham Clinton, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. That I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same. That I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."
