Описание к видео We Almost Made Krakens Real

How humanity whaled so hard that we almost released the kraken. A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous, got me?

What other supernatural creature have humans accidentally made real?
Leprechauns, because of your short, deceptive grandpa who makes his Irish ancestry his whole personality -   / membership
Bigfoot, because there are definitely big hairy guys who live out in the PNW wilderness - https://x.com/parsons_tor
Shoggoths, because there's one on my desk (and, possibly, in my laptop) -   / mrsluds
Squirrels because c'mon, there's no way those evolved naturally -   / tor.in.oregon

This episode topic was suggested to me by The Slaneeshi EngineSeer (he told me to call him that) and written and researched by both of us. I'll get him to add his sources, but here are mine, for the part I researched.
Petroleum didn’t save the whales: https://www.researchgate.net/publicat...
[Note: while this source claims the Apollo spacecraft were lubricated with whale oil, NASA historian Bill Barry denies this, saying their supplier of lubricants began as a whale oil company, but switched to other oils by the time they were a customer of NASA: https://www.nasa.gov/podcasts/invisib...]

Regarding my comments in this episode about the Soviet planned economy: I may not be a leftist, but I have to admit I have a soft spot for the 20th century dreams of planning your way to utopia. Spreadsheet communism, as someone once called it. I have an episode in the pipeline (likely months from now, it's a big undertaking) about one of the most surprisingly successful attempts at economic planning, and how the Soviets' inefficient mess could have learned from it. Really looking forward to that one.

Credits for the intro and outro music can be found by watching the whole video to the end.
