Ahead of Glasgow, the COP26 Presidency, the High-Level Climate Champions and global leaders assess the transition from ambition to implementation in the race to a cleaner, healthier, more resilient world.

The world is racing to a net zero emissions world. Since launching on World Environment Day 2020, over 4,500 companies, cities, regions, financial, educational, and healthcare institutions have joined the Race to Zero through leading Partner initiatives and committed to reducing emissions across all scopes swiftly and fairly in line with the Paris Agreement, with
transparent action plans and robust near-term targets. This accelerating growth in ambition on mitigation has been met with a groundswell of support for building climate resilience. Since January this year, over 1,500 companies, cities, regions, and financial institutions from over 80 countries have joined the Race to Resilience with robust efforts to build resilience in communities vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

The growing momentum and progress amongst non-state actors has been matched by greater government ambition, with 59 countries having already submitted enhanced NDCs in the lead up to COP26 in a bid to keep 1.5C within reach. With only 40 days to go until the pivotal climate conference in Glasgow in November, this event will explore the immediate actions required to halve global emissions by 2030 and deliver the promise of the Paris Agreement. Global leaders will come together to highlight the role of radical collaboration in driving the twin goals of reducing emissions and building resilience within the critical “decade of delivery” ahead of 2030, and discuss how to accelerate the transition already underway within different sectors of the real economy.
