Tube Amp Shootout! Fender ‘68 Custom Princeton vs. Fender Pro Jr IV LTD Tweed (Part 1: Clean Tones)

A side by side shoot out between two popular Fender tube amplifiers, the ‘68 Custom Princeton Reverb and Pro Jr IV LTD Tweed. After playing around with them together over the passed few days I thought it would be cool to showcase the differences between them. The circuits are obviously quite a bit different, as are the controls, but I did my best to set them up a similarly as I could.

The settings were as follows:
Princeton = Volume 3 1/2, Treble 9 (these 68 Customs are VERY dark and VERY bassy, hence the boosted treble setting) Bass 3 1/2 Reverb and Tremolo switched off.
Pro Jr: Volume 4, Tone 5 1/2

Both amps are mic’d with my old Shure SH55. Yes, I’m aware it’s not the greatest mic for such things, but it’s all I have a the moment.

This is part 1, all clean tones. Nothing fancy or over the top playing wise, just some basic noodling to really let you hear the differences. I’m playing my Seymour Duncan loaded Tele with a fresh set of DR Pure Blues strings (11-50).

Have a listen and let me know which one sounded best to your ears. Keep an eye out for part 2 in the coming days.
