Prof. Shailja Singh, from the Special Centre for Molecular Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), spoke to Deep Halder at the Pondy Lit Fest about her research on tropical diseases that impact large populations in the subcontinent. She was awarded by the President for identifying the mechanism by which artemisinin works and discovered that the introduction of iron nanoparticles enhances the drug's efficacy against parasites that have developed resistance. Notably, this innovative use of iron nanoparticles was inspired by Ayurvedic practices. This and much more were discussed on the PLF platform, which is committed to showcasing science as a vital pillar of nation-building.
