In this episode, Saurabh Dwivedi talks about three photographs that describe Afghanistan’s past.

First one is the The remnants of an army. This is an 1879 oil canvas painting by Elizabeth Thompson. It depicts William Brydon assistant surgeon in the Bengal Army, arriving at the gates of Jalalabad in January 1842.

Second if the 1984 photographic portrait of Sharbat gulan. It was captured by Steve McCurry and appeared on the June 1985 cover of national geographic. It became world wide famous as afghan girl and Brought attention of people towards plight of citizens of Afghanistan.

Third is the photograph of Buddha Statue in Bamyan Valley of Central Afghanistan. The statues were blown up and destroyed in March 2001 by the Taliban, on the orders of Taliban chief Mulla Muhammad Omar.
