After learning all the adavus and stepping into learning items, we are taught alarippu, pushpanjali, jathiswaram all being predominantly nrtta items. A student’s first venture into abhinaya (expressions) happens with shabdam. As the the word suggests, the expressions are done word to word. Shabdams have a rhyme like quality musically forming patterns with repetitions in the movements which helps the learner emote for each word and get used to that. They are also interlaced with small jathis in between to break the monotony. This shabdam on Krishna is a Ragamalika set to Misra chapu talam
