In this video, we'll explore EARLY WARNING SIGNS that your feet gives you about diabetes. As a doctor I often tell my patients the importance of listen to your body and identify the early signs and symptoms that it gives us. Type 2 diabetes affects nearly 100 million people in America and it is super important to know all the signs and symptoms. In the UK almost 1 in 3 people have Pre-diabetes and this can often be an important time to pick up people who are at risk of developing diabetes so look out for these signs and symptoms. These skin signs and symptoms in the feet can apply to both men and women.

When we talk about diabetes, these are the early warning signs that it is essential to look up for:

1. Numbness / Tingling or pins and needles
This can sometimes occur when our nerves are being affected by high sugar levels seen in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
2. Infected Sores and Ulcers on Feet
Ulceration and foot sores are very common in diabetic patients and a key sign and symptom to look for. Often with better sugar control these can improve.
3. Cold Feet
This can happen due to both nerve damage seen in diabetes and also circulation issues.
4. Changes in Shape of Feet or Deformity
5. Hairloss and shiny, smooth skin on feet or legs
6. Yellow discoloured toenails - Fungal infection
Diabetics are more prone to getting fungal infections of the toenails and skin.
7. Dry cracked skin on feet
8. Painful feet or legs
