The Jeep Avenger may not be new to everyone, as it was first launched in September 2022 for the 2023 model year. Built on the Common Modular Platform developed by Groupe PSA, this model is not slated for a United States debut anytime soon. However, the Avenger 4xe—a fresh addition introduced in early 2024—is Jeep’s latest mild-hybrid release, bringing a new twist to its lineup.

Interestingly, while Jeep’s 4xe badge usually signifies a plug-in hybrid setup (as seen with the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee), the Avenger 4xe is a mild hybrid powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. This is another Groupe PSA engine, a notable choice due to its history with some reliability issues related to belt failures. However, newer iterations of this engine now include a timing chain instead of a wet belt, which could signal better durability. Whether the Avenger 4xe uses the updated timing chain or the older oiled belt setup remains unclear, as Stellantis has not yet released all the specifics on its inner mechanics.

On the pricing front, Stellantis recently opened order books for the Avenger 4xe across Europe, with a base price set at 144,600 Polish zloty (about 33,245 euros or 35,920 United States dollars). Production happens in Poland, where Stellantis also builds the Avenger’s platform siblings—the Alfa Romeo Junior and Fiat 600. Jeep even introduced a limited North Face Edition of the Avenger 4xe for 168,500 Polish zloty (about 38,730 euros or 41,850 dollars). Named after the outdoor brand, only 4,806 units of this special edition will be made in tribute to Mont Blanc’s impressive 4,805.59-meter height.

The Avenger 4xe certainly packs some power, featuring a small battery, transmission-integrated electric motor for the front wheels, and a separate electric motor for the rear axle. Combined, these generate a balanced 134 horsepower from the internal combustion engine and 28 horsepower from each electric motor, delivering solid performance for a subcompact crossover. It can reach 194 kilometers per hour (120 miles per hour), with zero to 100 kilometers per hour (or roughly 60 miles per hour) in about 9.3 seconds.

With an 8.3-inch ground clearance, great approach and departure angles, and enhanced traction thanks to a 22.7:1 rear-axle reducer, the Avenger 4xe is equipped for more than just city driving. Jeep’s latest hybrid could be the go-to option for those who want compact yet capable all-weather versatility, keeping the adventurous spirit of Jeep alive in a modern hybrid form.
