Early on in my photography career I turned to sports to teach me how to be fast on my feet. As a wedding photographer I knew that I needed to be able to react to my environment quickly to assure I never missed the shot. Over the years I have been able to photograph several sports I enjoy being a fan of.

Part of truly Ditching Auto is understanding your camera settings to the point they become second nature. When you grab your camera you already have an idea of where your shutter speed, aperture, and ISO need to be. It is easy to find something you like to photograph and never venture from it. Trying your hand at different photography genres will help you grow as a photographer when you are capturing the things that are near and dear to your heart.

Find a sport happening near you this week and try to photograph it. If nothing is going on near you, grab an athletic friend and photograph them practicing.
