Babu Chiri Sherpa was a legend of the Himalayas: ten ascents of Everest, a speed record, and 21 hours on the summit without oxygen. A man who came from a village with no schools, taught himself to read, and became a national symbol of Nepal.

But on April 29, 2001, just 300 meters below Camp II, he disappeared in broad daylight. No storm. No visible danger. His footprints vanished under a thin layer of snow, triggering one of the most intense search operations in Everest’s history. This is the story of a hero whose final chapter reminded the world that on the mountain, even the strongest can fall with a single step.
