After Sean MacGuire's death and Jack Marston's kidnapping, Dutch Van Der Linde and his gang suspect the Braithwaite family. After struggling through their forces and reaching the manor, the gang proceed to interrogate the family for Jack's whereabouts. After the location is revealed, Arthur Morgan and the rest of the group burn down the manor, killing Catherine Braithwaite in the process.

After this, if you return to the wreckage after the mission 'Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern', you can find Catherine's body and loot it, stealing her brooch. (I had previously done this so that's why she doesn't spawn.)
