In 1988, Sadler's Wells Opera in London staged the first professional revival of Noël Coward's operetta, "Bitter Sweet".

The story, set in 19th century and early 20th century England and Austria-Hungary, centres on a young woman's elopement with her music teacher.

Martin Smith was chosen to play the role of the music teacher Carl Linden, and in 1988 a cast recording of this production was released, and became the first time the complete score had been recorded.

These are two of the songs Martin sung in the first act, the second being a duet with Valerie Masterson.
