Part 1: How do you build an AirBnB? How do you get started? Start Here. I'm going to attempt to build a garage apartment from the ground up for $100,000.00 in 100 days. Foundation to Framing, Plumbing to plants: I'll show you everything and at the end, we'll talk about the costs and some things I would do differently next time.

Armed with too much free time during lockdown, intrepid Fort Worth, TX based product designer, Matthew Townsend builds his way to living rent free by constructing a garage apartment in the back yard of his historic home.

This is part one of a series of indefinite length and sporadic release showing the build process: the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Follow me as I try to complete a three car garage with second story rental apartment from scratch in 100 days for under $100K. Along the way, I'll introduce you to some amazing people (like my mom) and show you all my mistakes so you don't have to make them. At the end, I'll update you to show you how the project turned out and see how well (or poorly...) the garage apartment is doing as a rental. The goal is to live in my house rent free by using the rental to float the entire mortgage and, hopefully, have a little fun on the way.
