A 26-year-old brilliant software engineer, Kavin Selva Ganesh, was brutally murdered in broad daylight near a clinic in Tirunelveli, allegedly by 21-year-old Surjith, the younger brother of Kavin's long-time girlfriend Subashini. This shocking incident has shaken Tamil Nadu.

Kavin, a gold medalist and a bright young talent from Thoothukudi, was working at a reputed IT company in Chennai. Despite their different castes, he and Subashini had maintained a 9-year-long relationship since their school days. Subashini, now a Siddha doctor in Tirunelveli, called Kavin to accompany her for a hospital visit. Moments later, Kavin was hacked to death by Surjith with a sickle, reportedly after being pepper-sprayed and cornered.

The alleged motive? "Caste pride" and "family dishonor."

Surjith, son of two serving police officers, surrendered at the Palayamkottai police station immediately after the murder. Kavin's family alleges that Surjith was instigated by his parents and that their police background gave him the confidence to commit such a gruesome act and surrender without fear.
