【日本遺産】「石工の郷　八代」/【Japan　Heritage】The　home of masons, Yatsushiro（英語/中国語/韓国語　full ver.）

令和２年６月、本市の「石造りの文化」のストーリーが日本遺産に認定されました。
この動画は、本市の日本遺産のストーリーや、構成文化財の魅力を発信するものです。

　かつて全国に築かれた「めがね橋」を今でも数多く見ることができる熊本県。その多くは八代で生まれ育った石工たちに手掛けられたものです。彼らの卓越した手腕は日本各地で必要とされ、「神田万世橋」や「通潤橋」などの架設を成功に導き、全国に名声を轟かせるまでになりました。そのため、八代は多くの「名石工」を輩出した「石工の郷」と呼ばれています。

Years ago, arch shaped bridges — ‘Meganebashi Bridges’ or ‘Spectacles Bridges’ — existed all over Japan. They are still utilized often in Kumamoto Prefecture. Many of them were built by masons who hailed from Yatsushiro. They possessed outstanding skills that were in demand all over the country. The successful construction of Kanda Sujikaibashi Bridge (presently Manseibashi Bridge), Tsujunkyo Bridge, and other bridges helped spread the reputation of Yatsushiro masons to every corner of the country. Yatsushiro is called the Hometown of Masons because it produced many master masons.
